Keshan silk,

Central Persia (Iran), c. 320 x 220 cm, about 1900, yellow silk warp with cotton wefts; a magnificent, early workshop carpet in an exceptionally large format, the carpet is worked in souf technique (relief) and possibly, due to the shah crown knotted in the central field, was produced as a commissioned work for the closer circle around the former ruler of the Qajar dynasty - Muzaffar ad-Din Shah (1896-1907), due to the quality of its colour and the open drawing the piece is a prototype of the later fashionable souf carpet group; lower woven finish folded and completely preserved, partially low silk pile with some repairs to the delicate foundation weave, the shirazi probably newly overcast, the carpet is entirely backed with partly torn jute.
